Why BACHA???

In 1996 Archbishop Michael Rozario encouraged us to begin a values course for the high school students in the Dhaka Archdiocese. More than 10 schools responded favourably. Mymensingh and Dinajpur districts were close followers which brought the number of schools to 33. Three guide books were written, entitled: DISCOVERY for the JIBONER JONNO SHIKKHA ( জীবনের জন্য শিক্ষা ) or Education for Life (EFL) programme. Because this programme was offered to the schools free of cost, the 18 teachers trained as facilitators needed salary and transportation to accomplish this mission. Funding was not available; therefore, the Archbishop suggested that the staff find a way of supporting this programme. At the suggestion of the EFL staff, Bacha English Medium School was established to serve this purpose. The programme continues to this day in three Dioceses: Dhaka, Mymensingh, Dinajpur.
